I make my sons food for him and he is a Vegetarian. Besides lentils and egg yolks what can I give him? I have a booklet from a WIC office that say he can't have egg whites, peanut butter, straw or raspberries, or diary products before one year of age. I am supposed to introduce him to protiens now but what can I give him?

From a vegetarian mommy, raising a vegetarian son, with my vegetarian husband....
Your baby can have any type of beans at this age - such a variety to choose from - garbanzo, black, white, navy, pinto, etc. Go easy on yourself and find low-sodium beans in a can at the supermarket. Drain and rinse two cans of beans for at least one full minute. Put them in a food processor and blend away - add a little water at a time until you get a smooth, baby food consistency. Smear the whole mess into ice-cube trays, cover and freeze overnight. Next morning, run water over the backs of the trays and pop them all out into a freezer bag labeled with the date. Each cube is an ounce. All you have to do is thaw them out in the microwave. Easy as pie, and a wonderful source of protein. The cubes will keep for two months.
Also, tofu is a very easy baby food... you feed it raw. Just buy the silken type tofu (in the produce section), cut off a chunk, mash it up with a fork, and spoon it into him. One of the best sources of protein known to vegetarian moms everywhere!

First and foremost breastfeeding. That's all the nutrition your baby needs; solids are for the experience until the first birthday, not for the nutrition. You don't *have to* give protein foods now, but if you choose to, tofu is a good choice. It is less allergenic than other soy products. Or give grains--they actually have quite a bit of protein, although it isn't well absorbed unless they have some beans or egg within a few hours of it. If you don't have food allergies in the family, then almond butter is another possibility. (Nuts are best avoided a little longer if you do have food allergies.)

I'm not a vegetarian, so I can't speak from personal experience, but I did find this web site that might be helpful:
http://www.vegetarianbaby.com/
It recommends tofu for babies:

Um.... how can an 8 month old baby be vegitarian? An 8 month old child can't decide that kind of stuff for itself... Its obvious that YOU would be deciding that this child is a vegitarian and in doing so robbing the poor kid of a healthy diet and the nutrition he needs to grow up big and strong. FEED HIM MEAT!

I think you may be a vegetarian and more power to you but your child is not. You need to talk to a dietician NOW before you screw this up. Infants need a careful balance of foods and some of them may or may not meet your requirements but they need to meet his.
Contact your county health department, WIC or your pediatrician for advice.
