Even when it comes to local flights, I've always had the best luck with travel agents.

Start by looking up the price on:
http://www.airtravelguide.com
I know this is a UK website, but it has a particularly good search engine and will tell you the absolute cheapest fares. It also includes all major airlines, including Southwest and the others mentioned above (which Expedia doesn't).
Then of course you can go direct to the airlines it recommends and book them direct. These days that's almost always cheaper than going through an agent of any kind.

None of the travel websites are particularly cheaper than the other. Always check them first, but ultimately go to the airlines website. Believe it or not, its usually cheaper and you avoid booking fees, rediculous connections and outrageous restrictions. Websites like Priceline, Cheaptickets, Hotwire, Lowestfare...etc lock you into the ticket and you can not back out or change your dates for any reason and the airline wont touch these tickets. Its always safest to book directly with the airline itself.
If you need help, shoot me an e-mail with your cities and dates and I'll guide you in the right direction.

Just go directly to Southwest. They are always the lowest air fare in and out of San Diego. One of their planes is even painted like Shamu the whale at Sea World. You can travel just like Jonah in the old days--inside a whale. Should scare the little ones to death.

Try Expedia .com , Travelocity. com and Orbitz .com.
You can compare flight information and prices, to find the best deal possible.

It really doesn't matter. SouthWest will match any fare as with most carriers. Hope your destination has a SouthWest Routing. No I do not work with SouthWest, but did retire from a Major Carrier...Rody_o

Not all those sites list all the airlines. Southwest and Jet Blue must be viewed on their own websites. Not one site list them all.
