Yes and no. You are required to register, but you must submit an exception form along with your registration. There's a box that you check on the form that indicates transsexual. You won't be required to serve and you wouldn't be allowed to unfortunately.

Umm, no, because we have a volunteer armed force, at least when there's no draft. And, like has been said most jurrisdictions, legal entities, don't recognize the change. That's why some FTM or MTF people have trouble with authorities (police, teachers at own children's schools, etc.). For some reason, most people judge by their eyes and carrying a driver's license or other documentation listing you as what you aren't can be confusing. Also, the surgery doesn't change your genetic gender, the chromosomes you are born with don't change. So, technically, even though for all other purposes you're M, genetic testing will reveal you are F.
Hope this helps!

No. Transsexualism is considered a mental illness by the military and renders you unfit for service.
Yes, he could be legally considered male. You need to have some sort of surgery to change or ammend the birth certificate. There's a list of which state does what on here: http://www.drbecky.com/birthcert.html
Ftm don't necessarilly have to have bottom surgery. Mtf have to have SRS, generally.
Yeah, enlistment is voluntary.
Feel free to sign up for selective service, it's a manly thing to do ;). They won't draft you or anything, though.

There is currently no compulsory enlistment for members of either gender in the US, so no.
In the days of the military draft, prior to 1973 or so, it was males only, but at that point they would not have knowingly have taken someone with gender identity issues.
Under this President, if the draft were to be re-instituted, I don't think they'd touch you with a ten foot pole.

No, because most states don't recognize FTM or MTF as a gender change. In most states you can't get your birth certificate changed or your gender changed legally on your license. I believe that once you're in "the computer" as one gender, it takes nearly an act of Congress to change it.

I think you mean in the selective service, which is the draft database. It depends on where you are in terms of the transition, probably, and whether your state is one of the few that allows you to change your birth certificate. You probably wouldn't be allowed in the military, but I'm not sure, you'd have to ask a recruiter. Try www.goarmy.com , there's a chat with recruiters almost every day.

for "just me" Female To Male and no the military would interview you about that before you enlisted and would likely decied not to allow that under the "no self mutilation" rule rather than the anti-gay thing.

If you claim to be male, and meet the age limits for registering for selective service, then yes, you would.
