What are with these stupid movies coming out Miami Vice, Mi3,The Devil Wears Prada, were have all the good movies gone? It's like they make movies for only teenagers these days. I haven't gone to the theater to see a movie since crash and that was because my friend dragged me. What are some of your favorite movies? I liked The Grudge, Crash was pretty good, I liked The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I don't know I just feel like the quality of movies has gone down.

No, i'm not 40, I just like a good movie. To everyone who didn't bash me just for asking a question thank you, but for the couple of people with nasty comments geez it's just a question you don't need to be so rude!

Amen.
There was a discussion on the radio about this the other day and Hollywood insiders say it's all about the benjamins. Movies like "Little Man" which was universally panned by critics will end up making money because people will go to see it. In fact, I just read that Miami Vice is the #1 movie at the box office this weekend.
Stupid movies are popular because stupid people will pay $9 to see them. If people stopped watching that crap, they'd stop making it. It's all about the lowest common denominator. There are some better quality films out there, but they seldom get the notoriety because they aren't marketed as well. The folks on the west coast have a formula and it involves gratuitous violence, nudity, big name stars, and a sensational plot. Then market the hell out of it and damn the critics - it'll land the production company buku bucks.
But now I'm being a culture snob. The fact is, everyone is entitled to their opinion and a lot of people happen to ENJOY movies with bad acting and an embarrassingly ridiculous plot. I personally like a little more substance in my films - but to each their own.

You have a good point. I'm just a kid, but the old movies were so much better! Like, Cujo, Radio, The Shining, The Omen, Grease...haha. But not to bash, there are some new movies that may be ok too.

It's called "getting older", dearie. I don't enjoy movies anymore, either. I can't deal with the sound going too loud, too soft, you can't follow what they're saying......
Sure it's the movies. But it's you, too. If you liked Texas Chainsaw Massacre that puts you at about 40. Your movie days are about over.

What's wrong with Superman, or Pirates of the Caribbean, or Lady in the Water? All these movies are good movies. I sort of got tired of R movies where every sentence is a curse word or filled with violence. The world is full of violence, so is nice to see something that takes your mind away from these things.

There are some diamonds in the rough. I haven't seen any lately, but I enjoyed The Pianist and The Count of Monte Cristo, both fairly recent movies.
