I am not the paranoid type of person that will freak out over it. As I recall citizens have the right to assembly. How about the Pythagorean they were a secret society before the destruction of the great library in Alexandria. They were mysterious and mistrusted just like secret societies today. The Pythagorean were conspiring to do.....math. Creepy huh...lol. There are a lot of reasons to assemble in secret rather than public or openly in there time there was a reason to keep their activities a secret,
math would not be something you would want your enemies or rivals to know of. Well if you make it public to your people you make it public to your rivals as well. History is where the answers are all at. There are a large number of secret scholar societies present today. Why secret, wouldn't do any good being public mainly.
