you asked for the best not the weight synthetics are always the best as they don't do the thermo brake down thing
Mobil makes a good one as does others
if your asking about regular oil
according to consumer reports Castro is the best as a mechanic i use Valvoline as far as weight i tend to protect for heat rather than cold so i go with a 15w40

oil change answer:
CHANGE YOUR OIL EVERY 3,000 miles, with new oil filter you'll be fine. keep all your receipts and records.
the gm warranty book says change it every 5,000 miles. this newer oil is great. very high quality. i was Chevy /gm employee for 21 years, sales, & warranty rep, asst serv.mgr,
answer:
if you live in southern us- (hot) weather states, -any 10-W 30 oil, with "energy conserving" seal on bottle.
cold weather states, minnesota , north dakota, alaska, canada, etc, etc,
use: 5W-30 OIL with the "energy conserving" seal on the bottle. mobil, pennzoil, castrol gtx, mr. goodwrench, quaker state, valvoline, any of those are just fine.
PLEASE NOTE*Absolutely NO *30WT NO-*10-40 IN CHEV. GM CARS OR TRUCKS. (has no seal on bottle)
THIS COULD "VOID" A GM OR EXTENDED WARRANTY
IT IS NOT necessary to use full synthetic oil, it cost a lot more$$$ and gm does not care as far as warranty goes anyway.GM WILL still require a 5,000 mile change anyway for warranty purposes. so, full synthetics are fine for donald trump. ross perot, jerry jones, tiger woods, mark cuban, but not for average driver. you'll just be throwin $$$ away if you buy it. as far as filters go a $3.00-$5.00 fram is fine higher than that...well same money burning speach applys.GOOD RULE OF THUMB, IF IT doesn't have the "energy conserving" lablel THEN DONT USE IT! you may not even have any warranty or extended warranty left, but BE GOOD to your engine, because neglecting an oil change will surely get you back on your feet again!
remember that!

If you would check in your Owners Manual, it will tell you that you should use 5w30. I have a 2004 Cavalier with the Ecotec. I've got 54000 miles on it. I've always used Castrol Syntec Blend 5w30. You don't want to use High Milage Oil until you hit 75000 miles.

There is an oil that is made by Pennzoil that is for High mileage cars. Use that. If you prefer you can go to the synthetic stuff but don't try to switch back after words.

Any brand name like Quaker state, Valvoline, Castrol, etc. oil will be OK as soon as you change it regularly... With 66,000 I'd go for mineral oil - synthetic is good for newer engines.

5w-30 in the winter..... 10w-30 in the summer....... both 30 weights at operating temp, just 5w-30 has better cold temp flow... so less startup wear..... though 10w-30 doesn't break down as easy in the hot temps.... any good name brand will do.
Please do not use cheaply constructed and overpriced fram filters.......!!
