Wow, sorry I missed the party! Bryan has it to a tee!!!

Good luck! Come over to one of the yahoo groups, there are 80, or ask on a LUG site, http://lugww.counter.li.org where there are 700!

Also, whatever Linux uou're using, has a Forum at their website! and, the question has already been answered at the Sun Java forum!!!

This IS a poor place to ask such a technical question, but, I hope we guided you to Nirvana!

An rpm is not a normal self extracting file, it is meant to be used with a package manager. But that file is a bin file, so what has happened is that it is an rpm in a self-extracing file.

After looking at Sun's website, I think you need to run a "./jre-1_5_06-linu x-i586-rpm.bin" (without the space in linux, and yes do the ./ to run the file) and then "rpm -i jre-1_5_06-linux-i586-rpm". If that doesn't work, you may need to download the other linux file from Sun, not the rpm file.

What command did you use to download the file? That's a long file name, you might have mistyped it if you didn't use tab completion. Yahoo Answers isn't the best forum for this type of problem, since they only allow one question and one answer per person. You might try a linux chat room or newsgroup, such as news:comp.os.linux.misc.

I tried using java, doesn't work. Probably a glitch or something. My advice: don't use it.
