The most violent rated-R film I've ever seen is Saving Private Ryan. You get intestines coming out of guys on the battlefield in several scenes. If you compare it to other R-rated films, I don't think any other films come close.

I think the X-Rated version of Robocop is way up on the list.

There are about a dozen 70s exploitation movies where heads explode on contact, George Romero's Dawn of the Dead has a big money-shot, and his film Martin(1977) is up there.

I don't violent movies that are the most hard to sit through are because of gore. It's about subject matter and if there is an emotional investment.

The violence from Passion of the Christ was pretty gruesome. If you are talking body count, Hot Shots part Deux had the counter and the end with Charlie Sheen using a machine gun and guys falling left and right. If you are talking about gore, look to the movie Hostel. Any boxing movie is violent, hitting left and right.

Billy Jack. It's about this white/Indian hero. The worst part of the movie is a massacre of indian women and children, I went when I was five with an older cousin who didn't know that was in the movie...she had to take me out of the theater, crying, I still remember it.

The Hills have Eyes, and the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre were both very violent.

The Pianist. It was the most violent, yet most beautiful movie I have ever seen. Perhaps that's why it's my favorite.

Trick question.

The flat out most violent film is "Kill Bill Vol.1" for the sheer amount of violence.

The one that is the most unrelenting is "Reservoir Dogs"

How funny they are both Quentin films

Runner up: "Blade II"

Sin City is really violent, but it's presented in a pulp comic kind of way. But, geesh.
