Try checking your email options. Yahoo has one that informs everyone that you are on vacation.
There might be a similar one with AOL and MSN. Check your email settings or type something similar to away messages in help topic of AOL and MSN

You do not want to stop it [which you really cannot do with any service]. What you want to do is to leave an automated message [look under options and then vacation response in yahoo] so that people who send you stuff will know that you are not getting it. Another option is to filter your email [especially if you are expecting a lot of stuff from one source such as a person, news service, etc.] so that when you come back it is all sorted [again, under options]. Lastly, if you do not want emails sent to you warn the people, service, etc. beforehand through email [or with automated services like news services go into your account and unsubscribe] so they aren't sending you anything. Good luck.

You don't need to have your email stopped. It will just wait in your inbox until you log in again.

Most places won't remove your account for three months, so a month vacation shouldn't hurt, you may want to look at the terms of service to make sure.
