I once saw a special on TV about this home (I want to say it was built by someone in the firearms business and that the home was out west somewhere- but am unsure). Anyway, it is special and famous because after the owner's death, his wife had a seance and was told to add onto the house without stopping. She added rooms constantly until her death. That is all I remember and I can't find any info by doing a web search. Anyone know anything about it?

She was the daughter of the Winchester's the inventors of either the gun or shotgun, and on Ghost Hunter's from the Sci-Fi channel investigated it and couldn't prove anything one way or another. I believe the house is in California, it has halls that don't lead anywhere. It proves how creeped out people can do such weird stuff if they have the money. It is a bizarre house

She wasn't the owner's wife--she never married. She was the daughter of a man who made rifles (I think it was Remington). She was terrified that the people who had been killed by his rifles were haunt her, and she was told by a medium that she could only stop this by building a house and continually adding on to it. The house is in San Francisco, and it has doors and stairs that lead to nowhere, dozens of bedrooms, all kinds of rooms that have no purpose at all, and so on.

The Winchester mystery house. Supposedly she felt guilty about deaths caused by the guns her family produced. It is in San Jose, CA. I believe she had the house built herself after her husband's death. It has strange things like stairs that dead end into the ceiling.

You're talking about the widow Sarah Winchester who heard from members of the "Spirit Realm" that she had to build continuously to this house *24hrs, 7days, 12 months, 365 days a year...blah blah blah* to repent for those lives lost with aid from her husband's families rifles. It's fascinating and the house has seen quite a bit of strange phenomenon. Here's a few links.

Mrs. Winchester, she believed if the house was ever complete then should would die. She was haunted by all the people killed by her husbands rifles. I think the guilt really drove her crazy. But she died a very old lady.
