Would you help me plan a break from work and routine? I want to take an extended weekend (mini vacation) - friday through monday. Must be within mainland US, between mid-august and mid-october. I'll drive if within the circle of Mobile, Alabama/Jackson, Mississippi/Dallas, Texas/Houston, Texas. If beyond that circle, I'll fly. Make it interesting and/or fun and not expensive. I don't know what's going on around this country - what or when to go see.

There is only one answer to this question. New york City. I live in Pennsylvania which is about a 3 hour drive to New York. I have been all across this country to various places. If you are looking for weekend entertainment and lots of fun there is only one place . New York. The city will quite frankly "blow your mind".I highly recommend the "theater district". The accommodations are more expensive but you could get a room in New jersey and drive or taxi to the Big Apple. Don't make the mistake of thinking that by theater district i mean just theaters. Some of the finest restaurants , sporting events , clubs and just plain fun are right there. You can also taxi up to Greenwich village and do the whole party scene, or kick back in Rockefeller plaza. you could spend a whole weekend at Rock Plaza and never get bored . After all.. It is called "the city that never sleeps"

Well swm, I don't know what kinds of activities you are interested in, but I do know that Branson, MO is a fun and family friendly place to go. I am a single mom, so where I go my son goes. I don't expose him to activities that are above his age, meaning we enjoy good clean fun. That may be boring to you, but I have yet to go to Branson and not have fun. There are a lot of shows to see, quite a few celebrity visitors, and there are a bunch of places to go for evening enjoyment. I don't imagine I was of much help, but wanted to throw that out for you as an option. Good luck, and have a great time. Hope you find what you are looking for.

I would suggest going to Florida, but unless you wana spend a lot of money you have to go to a smaller town. The beaches aren't any diffrent, just rent a hotel room, go clubbing and chill out on the beach. Perfect vaccation.
