In the late 1980's when I was a teenager. It was an Amiga computer that my parents bought for me in Germany and because everything was in German, it really limited my ability to use the damn thing!

my high school was one of the first high schools in the country to have a computer
it was a PDP-8 model
of course their were no "personal" computers in those days
the hard drive was the size of a filing cabinet and held about 512K of memory
the interface was a "teletype maching" that typed on a huge roll of yellow paper (there was no crt or "screen" of any type
we had a basic compiler but we had to start it up each morning by keying in the "octal" machine code sequence
we sure though it was cool
