It is not illegal. An employer can even monitor e-mail and phone calls until they know that it is a personal call or e-mail. They can even monitor restrooms if men watch men and women watch women. You have no privacy in the workplace when you are on the clock and very little privacy off the clock if you are on the companies property.

You are generally allowed to post camera's anywhere except places where people privacy could reasonably be expected ie restrooms. Breakrooms, shopfloor, etc are fair game.

The rule is...

You may record anywhere there is not a "reasonable expectation of privacy. At work, you would expect for other people see and hear what you do.

Now if you want to set a cam in the ladies room... THEN you have a problem.

Yes it is. An employer is within his rights to know what is going on at his company at all times.

It might not be wise to micro-manage the employees in this fashion, but a good employer knows when this is necessary.
