I have an analytical mind. A place where religious beliefs fear to tread. Help me to get past this as I cannot accomplish this difficult task on my own.

Belief in God or any supreme being is a presupposition, because it is a belief not founded on any basic belief. However, there is reason to believe in God, and there are several philosophical arguments to that end. This question is not where religious beliefs fear to tread, but where religious people(fideist) like to avoid. One of the basic tenets of Christianity
is God is true, in fact He is the Truth.(John 14:6; 2 Corinthians 1:18-20) How can anyone know for sure they have eternal life? Simply by God's promises and based on His truthfulness. (John 6:31-36; 10:27-30; 1 Timothy 1:15-17; 1 John 5:11,12) But most importantly is trusting God. Unfortunately, this a matter not testable empirically, but only subjectively. But God will let you know beyond any reasonable doubt.

If you take into account the way you are putting your question forward, it seems like you already know the answer. You would not accept an answer that would contradict or be apposite to what you are expecting here. Now let me ask you one question: what do you need an everlasting existence for? God does actually exists but, as a matter of fact, it does not look after us. If you want to get rid of your fear of death the best thing to do is to leave aside your religious believes. Religion is not in there to make it up for those who fear death, it is rather opposite. You might not believe this but you fear death just because you believe in God.

well you are moving in the right direction. asking questions is good because your faith will be stronger and based on some intelligence.

first step i would recommend is getting a new international version of the bible. focus mostly on the new testament. if you do go into the old testament you might like psalms, proverbs, and/or ecclesiastes.

you know how i built my faith? by needing God. first time it was when my girlfriend was diagnosed with cancer. that got me praying and needing God. but the thing that helped to build my faith more than anything was listening to christian radio. tune it in and listen to some sermons and it will give you things to think about all day. you can build your faith on intelligence and rational thought. but it takes time. good luck.

What's wrong with not having everlasting existence? Who says we don't just dissipate into nothingness? What's so scary about that? If you achieve all of the things you need to achieve here in earth, help other people and find peace within yourself, then why do you need everlasting life?

me and you both, but this is where we can analytical mind, by reading through these religions and saying, that's sounds like right, and that doesn't, like for instance, I tried to read all of the bible, but my heart and my mind didn't match up to each other, so it was a matter of what I was willing to accept, such as I only will allow myself to believe things that cant be contradicted, in the bible its the creation story(which I will admit can be contradicted, but its harder to dis prove), and in the new testaments Matthew and mark, and then within in those books of the bible, I still must pick at, such as they say that the Pharisees, paid off the gaurds to say the disiples stole them, so then that alerts me to a possible lie on both side, so then i shearch for the truth, within other text, it is said that a wealhty follower of Jesus, wanted to purchase his body, so it is more possible the gaurds were paid off by him, then by the pharisees, those they both were right and wrong, the gaurds were paid off, and the followers did take his body, and its possible he didnt die, and was taken care of by the family of the wealthy follower, and then died soon after, but his teaching r still valide

The best common sense approach is this: The apostles were cowards even after walking and watching the miracles of Jesus with their own eyes.. After the crucifiction they went into hiding. When Jesus rose and appeared to the apostles, Jesus told them that when HE went to His Father , He would send the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort them. Once Jesus ascended the apostles went into the world preaching boldly, knowing their fate and their faith would bring death to them.
Read the Bible and the Holy Spirit will enlighten you. Jesus is the only answer. Praise Him and give Him THANKS!!!

For starters, if there is not, you will never know cause you will be dead. And then there is the better safe than sorry method....if you don't beleive what God tells you, then you r doomed anyway. Have faith, don't over analyze it....Men wrote the Bible and men make mistakes.....God loves us anyway!
