Let x = first consecutive number
Let x + 1 = second consecutive number
x + (x + 1) = 35
2x + 1 = 35 (Subtract one from each side)
2x = 34 (Divide both sides by two)
x = 17
First consecutive number = 17, second consecutive number = 18

x + y = 35
You don't know x or y, but you do know they are consecutive. The rule for consecutive number is that their difference is 1.
x - y = 1
Use with x + y = 35 and solve the system using elimination:
x + y = 35
x - y = 1
(x + x) + (y - y) = 35 + 1
2x + 0 = 36
x = 18
y = 17

17+18=35
(35+1)/2 gives you the bigger number which is 18, therefore the other number would be 17.
Or
(35-1)/2 gives you the smaller number which is 17, hence the next number would be 18.

This is my work:
Let
x = the first integer (i hope by number you mean integer)
x + 1 = the 2nd integer
Their sum is 35, so
x + x + 1 = 35
Simplify x + x = 2x
2x + 1 = 35
Transpose +1
2x = 35 - 1
simplify
2x = 34
Divide both sides by 2
x = 17
The 2nd integer is
x + 1 = 18
My answer(w/c is included in my work):
17 and 18

17 & 18
Show Work:
x= Whole number y= x+1
x+y=35
x+ (x+1)=35
2x + 1= 35
2x+1-1= 35-1
2x=34
divide by 2
x= 17 and y= x+1 so y= 17+1= 18

are you asking a question or just trying to see if someone can figure out on their own what you asking?
Show your work?
17+18=35
How much more can you show? Unless you are really looking at something like:
X+(X+1)=35
X+X+1-1 = 35-1
X+X=34
2X=34
X=34/2
X=17
X+1=18
therefore: 17+18=35

x+(x+1)=35, or 2x+1=35, or 2x=34.
So, x=17, other number is 17+1=18.
