Some great activities for children with ADHD are in a book titled: The Out of Sync Child Has Fun by Carol Stock Kranowitz. There are lots of activities to help with the attention problems and the hyperactivity. Sometimes just having an activity or interest that the child is passionate about can help direct attention and focus. Children with ADHD have a lot of self-esteem issues. They are often dismissed by both adults and other children as a "pest", "nuisance" or "weird". They are frustrated with themselves for not being able to "behave" as they think they should, and as they feel others expect them to. Many behaviors stem from the self belief that since others don't like them anyway, they might as well not even try to control themselves. Predictablity and consistency are a big key in helping a child with ADHD. They need very strict guidelines and expectancies, since they are too impusive to make those judgments for themselves. Staying positive and giving praise for positive behaviors can help alot.

This is nuts. My brother is ADHD. It's not just some 'made up' emotional disability that teachers came up with. With my brother, his medication is a god send. When he's not on it, he finds it hard to concentrate at the task at hand or do more than one thing at a time.
Sure, sometimes he uses his ADHD as an excuse, when really he can control some of the things he does, but saying that it's just made up has about the same effect as saying cancer isn't real.

Get a few historical spoons or plastic spoons... see who can move round a circle with out losing a golfing ball or ping pong ball at the flooring. Place the small ball on a spoon and notice who preserve the ball at the spoon even as running round a basketball courtroom or running round a institution backyard.

Well, NOT t.v. and video/computer games. Physical games, board games. I find that role playing games are good.
