i wanna save some stuff on my floppys but everytime i try it says it's white-protacted (sorry about the spelling) i've tried moving the little tab both ways but still says the same. i have formatted floppys that work for my p.c ( i have windows me) but i don't know what i need to do so i can save items. can anyone please help?

i have a c.d drive but i need to use the floppy to make a back up file.

If I were you I would try to get away from floppy disks -- hardly anybody uses them anymore, they've become outmoded. Go for a Zip drive, usb flash drives, memory cards, or CDs for a way to store files. Believe me, you'll be happier too.

floppies are only protected with the little tab thing, so if that doesnt work, you have had it really.. Id suggest getting a PC with cd/dvd writer next time - much easier and far more space too

Sounds like a fault with your FDD. Try them on another PC first. You may have a faulty optical sensor which reads if the tab is open or closed.

Everything you tried should have worked. Have You tried purchasing different floppies?
