Not possible. That would be violating a law in the US that says they cannot be the only place for people to get things they need. If you are old enough (if not) you will remember Ma Bell and the break up they had to go through. Ma Bell eventually became several smaller groups. There has to be competition for products and services. Kroger is still strong and a lot of people still shop at Kroger and Kroger is branching out into selling the same things as Walmart, so there is still competition.

Although Walmart is by far the biggest corporation in the United States, it is still put in check economically by other big businesses that make up the oligopoly. There will always be competitors and substitute goods to consume that Walmart does not offer... expensive brand-name clothing and goods like automobiles or houses; as well as other goods Walmart is incapable of offering, like chicken fried steak from Mom and Pop's resturant.

Also, Walmart's long-term sucess will also be put in check as small communities continue to protest against the constructing of new Walmarts in their towns. Therefore, although Walmart has changed the face of rural America, it will never be 'the only store'.

I work at walmart, I love my job the pay is GREAT and my insurance is great. I dont understand why people keep putting it down. Talking how bad the pay is (I make over $6.00 more an hour then I did before) and I have cancer so I should know how good my insurance is. The support I have gotten from walmart has been awesome. GO WAL-MART!

I heard WalMart wants to build one world-wide superstore in China and then charter jets to fly customers in from all over the world. They'd save millions on real estate, could pay Chinese employees less than subsistence wages, and could negotiate a long-term trade agreement with China to manufacture all the junk they sell without regard to unions, environmental issues, or those pesky legal problems that keep cropping up in other more moral countries. And four of the ten richest people in the world would still be Sam Walton's descendants. -RKO-

No, there are a lot of people who don't shop at Wal-mart.

There are some things I just would never buy from Wal-mart. Produce, Meat, Furniture and Clothes. The Wal-mart Super-center near me has a horrid produce section but we have a lot of year round farmer markets, so that is where I buy from. The furniture selection is limited and it's put together yourself type items which don't last as well. The clothes are inexpensive, but the selection is dreadful, in my opinion.

I shop at Wal-mart for misc household goods and stock food items. I don't like their 'fresh' food stock, at least in my town.

LOL no! while i love walmart and shop there frequently. there is also a Meijer by my house (similar to walmart) and they are starting to go up everywhere.

some people think they're too good for walmart...(surprisingly they shop there anyway). so they usually go to the more high end stores.

No...they certainly have a place. They sell commodities at the cheapest price. In order to do this, they must limit choice.

They also do not cater to the fringes...specialty goods, odd locations, inner cities.

People want unique things, choices, convenienc etc.

Walmart cannot fufill these needs.

Not unless they try to pull an Enron and try to corner the market, don't get me wrong I LOVE Wal-Mart. I should own it, I spend so much money there. But, there were other stores around when Wal-Mart opened for business and Wal-Mart pushed them out. There's always going to be something bigger and better coming along in todays competitive world.

No. The free market will always allow competition. If Walmart gets too big, they won't be able to move quickly, and smaller competitors will beat them out.

No since they do not have the advantage in foreign markets. As a matter of fact, they are closing some of their stores in Germany - they can't compete. Not all foreign countries are helpful to US businesses.
