I recently purchased 2 red-eared slider turtles. We bought an aquarium and made it their home. Now 1, a female, digs pebbles out from under a rock and puts her back side in as far as she can go. Can you tell me why?

It maybe a nesting behavior. I am not sure because my male turtle digs in his rocks too. Since she is female, you'll need to have a nesting site.

RES (red ear sliders) don't lay their eggs in the water. The need land. So you'll need a spot with soft dirt for her to lay her eggs. It'll need to be a big spot because she may not feel comfortable with only one spot.

I have two red-eared slider turtles too. They often try to escape by digging through the pebbles. Don't worry about it! My vet sais it's completly natual. She also sais if the two turtles sit on top of each other, their trying for a baby!

she is nesting, or at least going through the motions of nesting.removeing the pebbles makes a burrow in which she can deposit her eggs.

Underwater?

If so, either trying to hide or get cool. If on land, nesting.

It sounds like she is trying to lay eggs. they lay eggs in sand by burrowing in , so that may be what she is doing
