1. Have fun!
2. Pay attention in class - everything that you learn in your freshman year you will build on in the future years of school.
3. Be very organized - use a planner to keep track of homework, projects, activities, etc.
4. If you are having trouble with a certain subject, talk with the teacher - most teachers are more than willing to stay after school and help you with any problems that you are having.
5. Get involved - join in groups, athletics, go to dances and sporting events. High School will fly by and you will get so much more out of it if you are involved in the school. Plus, it looks great on college applications!

High school is certainly different from middle school. Your teachers will 'expect' that something miraculous happened over the summer and all of a sudden - you are mature and ready for the world. "I know it ain't so" (excuse my language - I know what's correct - I'm making a point...smile) Let me make a couple of suggestions as a middle/high school teacher. 1) If you are not organized - get there. You are going to be expected to be responsible in ways you have never known. 2) There will be few teachers who will hold your hand - guide your way- they will expect you to do that on your own. 3) Do your homework. I know students have this thing - they don't do homework - they would rather talk on the phone all night long unbeknownst to their parents (you should hear the parents who tell me their kids have 9:00 bedtimes, but the next morning - those same kids tell me they didn't get to bed until 4:00 that morning!!!) 4) Pay attention to directions and follow them. Ask questions when you don't understand - no matter how many times you have to ask. 5) Make your teacher accountable (keep up with your work: I am so tired of students telling me "my teacher lost my homework") If this is the case - have your teacher sign your work and make a copy if necessary. You take some responsibility too. Participate in other activities. Get a good nights sleep and eat breakfast! Your brain will have been sleeping all night - your body is missing nutrients - you need 'food' to get that brain and body in conjunction with each other so you can function. Wear appropriate clothing. Layer if necessary - some schools are cold - and some teachers like it that way - they won't adjust to you. The most important thing I could advise is this - realize that there are a lot of battles that will come your way that you will want to fight (dress codes, teachers rules, etc., etc.). Think in terms of 'battles' - because some of them you will probably lose. Think: WAR - that's what you want to win - the war! Don't quibble over little things with students - try to be the mediator and wise person who 'listens' and makes decisions. Don't always run off at the mouth. Talk to your teachers - befriend them, let them know your goals and plans - they can help you. I guarantee, you will want recommendations later on - and if you have smarted off at them, or have been in trouble - they will hesitate to help you. I'm not saying 'suck up' - All I am saying is be nice. Do the right thing - all the time. Get to class on time. Make sure you area is clean - be prepared. Don't want until the last minute to get things done. Make sure your parents are aware of your assignments and the schools' schedule. Teachers are there to help you. High school can be frightening, but it can also be the beginning of the best time of your life. Enjoy it - and I do wish you all the best.

Make sure you get a day planner so you can keep track of your assignments. You can highlight the assignments that you have completed so you make sure they are finished. Make sure you have a relationship with your teachers...nothing sexual but just let them know you want to be a good student and that you care about your education. Always set time aside to study and join different clubs that you enjoy because you can start building your resume. If you do extra-curricular activities, you can meet new people and make friends. Stay active in your high school and make yourself a dominant force. If you are shy though start small such as joining a club and volunteering to be the Secretary or whatever. Responsibility is a good way to keep yourself going. Always be yourself though. Don't do anything that you wouldn't be comfortable with but don't be afraid to try new things. The worst that could happen is you don't like it. Be yourself and if pressure builds talk to someone. Oh, and make time for yourself.

you'll have fun because freshman year is the easiest year of all. Beware of taking other upperclassmens lunch spots, but later you'll find your own spot later too. Try joining a club or sports to meet more people, i guarantee you that'll work. Try acting like yourself and build your confidence because teachers love that. Don't worry if you get lost trying to find your classs because everyone's been there and done that. You'll do fine all the things your going to experience is something we all go through, its a breeze. A lot of the things in highschool can look a bit intimidating, well their really not. Also, don't forget to have some fun go to the dances and football games, you can be spirited too with your friends.good luck!

A) don't set out to prove anything to anyone but yourself. Be yourself... smile, sit back, watch others and their actions. You will easily be able to recognize how you DON'T want to act. B) Dont' be afraid to admit things you DO know . There is nothing wrong with learning....
C) be willing to ask for help if/ when you need it. Remember that the people you are going to school with will not be paying your bills or buyin you a car or putting a roof over your head. Be careful what you are willing to do or not do..just because of your friends. Do not spread stories...as popular as it can make you in one day... the unpopularity for being messy can last all four years.

My daughter is starting her freshman year and the best advice is to stay on top of all your work.
High school gets tough, quick, and if you miss days, get behind on your work, etc. it can overwhelm you quickly.
Do your assignments. Do your homework. If you have questions, don't be afraid to ask, and ask again and again until you get it.
Keep focused, try to make friends with the "straight kids", etc. The pressures will be tremendous to party, etc. There's nothing wrong with hanging with the geeks...they are the ones that will have a good future. The partiers won't be there for you later. Stay in the groups that are working for the same things you are!
You'll do FINE....keep your focus!

your freshman year is really your most important year, so just be yourself, go to all your classes, n try keep ya grades good. Be careful in making friends because high school is messy, and you want to be in the right crowd or you r gon get a bad rep. in the first week or so, n dont have so many female friends cuz those are the messy ones. but good luck on your first year...

First off....you want to do "well", not "good."
Pay attention in class.
Do your homework
Study hard.
Ask questions in class if you don't understand something
Ask for extra help if you aren't getting it.
Don't fall in with any cliques.
Don't be intimidated by other kids.
Don't feel pressured by other kids to do things you are not comfortable doing.
If you do have problems, don't be afraid to talk to your folks or another adult you can trust.
Have fun! Its a great time. Find activities you like. Join some clubs, play sports, find some good friends.
Be yourself.
You will do very "well!"
