If you want to see underwater w/o goggles then you should either:
(1) learn to live with the pain of chlorine
(2) swim in chlorine-free water so it doesn't burn as much
(3) buy these super expensive contacts (only if you wear glasses or contacts) that you can swim in~ they're pretty neat but they cost in the thousands.
OR
(4) WEAR GOGGLES

Goggles really are the best thing to use. I swim in pool water with my eyes open and can see very well but if I am in lake water or someplace where the water is not clear I do not see well at all but still keep my eyes open. You may just be sensitive to water. I have a friend who cant stand to even get shower water in her eyes it burns. so if you have sensitive eyes I would really suggest that you stick with some goggles. They make a million different kind so I am sure that you could find one that would be comfortable and suit you just fine.

Goggles are better if you want to see underwater. As without using them you wont see much at all as the water gets in the eyes.

Yea I think that will be hard, last I heard chlorine, and urine hurts, but just open your eyes, don't be limited, it really only hurts because its in water, of course those other things will have an affect on the eye, but unless your getting paid to open your eyes under water, use goggles, much easier, and you can see what your doing better
