I tried reading the book but watching the movie helps u a lot more and it's a very good movie. if u haven't seen it, go rent it! It has Gregory Peck in it. He is the hero in the story bcuz he stands up 4 this black man whose being accused of rape, which is totally false, and the white folks in town don't like the fact he's defending him and not on their side, like he betrayed them cuz they're racist and prejudiced. What else makes him the hero is he's a single dad whose working really hard as a lawyer in order 2 put food on the table. He just represents hard working, single parents and he stands up 4 what he believes is right and wrong. Hope this helps. I do believe Atticus Finch is the hero of the story but the movie is even better. It's an oldie but a goodie! ^_^

Atticus Finch was a hero to the story because he have tried to defend a black man. He have been looked down on just because of defending a black man. Although everyone know the black man is innocent (like a mockingbird) they still accuse him because he's black, which made it unfair, although Atticus know this problem at first he still gave his best shot on helping him in the court.

Yep, by Harper Lee. Aticus was the hero because he dared to challenge the rampant racism that dwell in the southern town he lived in. He proved through the trial process that Mr. Robinson was innocent even though the verdict came back guilty. This was due to the revelation by Mr. Robinson that he dared to pity a white person. He, as a lowly ***** (and I am just taking this on the basis of the book's content) who the town's prejudiced white folk felt was beneath them, should have the gall to do. As you remember when he explained the Scout, had he not taken the case, he believed he could never hold his head up in town nor discipline his children.

Basically because he's the main male character in the book.
More specifically, a hero is defined as someone noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose. Atticus definitely fits that bill.

Refer to Chapter 11 - the chapter on Mrs. Dubose. Atticus explains what "true courage" is: "I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. " Although Atticus is referring to Mrs. Dubose's kicking her morphine habit, this quote obviously applies to him, as the reader begins to see during Tom Robinson's trial.

Sure is...He changed the town's thinking of racism. Note when the jury took a very long time to think of Robinson's verdict (or the black guy...i forgot his name). Even though he was found guilty, the jury was actually thinking about this, not just making him guilty without any thought to the trial

In my opinion hes the hero. Of the fact that he prover he client was Innocent. And by that I mean he showed people that discrimination is unfair & wrong. You should not judge somone by thier color, or race.

he was the hero because he did what was right and not what was popular at the time...in those days everyone just pinned it on the blackman because he was black and automatically they believed the girl just because she was white...he lost friends and had threats against him for just trying to do the right thing....i havent seen the movie in awhile but its one of my favorites
