Make up your mind to do one certain thing...may it be a Saturday trip with your friends or dinner with your family. It needs to be something that you obviously care about, and it's important that you do it. See if your partner tries to stop you going in any way. Or observe how your partner acts when you explain that they aren't invited. (Make up a good reason for that one...don't want any hard feelings.) Let them know what time you'll be back. Turn your phone on silent and count the number of times that he/she texts or calls you. If it's more than 2 times in a period of a couple of hours, and it's not an emergency, then you have a control freak on your hands. Be just a little late getting home. Nothing major...just 10 or 15 minutes. See how your partner reacts...if they flip out or brush it off.

But to save yourself all that trouble, you could just ask yourself these questions. Does your partner ever tell you specifics about how they want you to dress or act? Does your partner ever put down general things about your personality or character, or talk about how you need to change a lot? Does your partner check up on you constantly while you're away from them...even at work? Does your partner act suspicious of you? Chances are if you're asking this question, then you probably already think that you're partner is a control freak.

If you're looking for a reason to dump them, then save yourself the trouble, and just dump them. You don't need to have a reason justified. Sometimes people just weren't to be. If you truly care about your partner, and you think they might need help with their controlling nature, then think it over and decide on your own if they are being overly controlling or not. And then take the steps to help them. B/c no one can deal with a control freak forever, and you don't want a relationship that is just doomed. Ya know?

Yes. If he (or) she tries to control you all of the time, then they're probably a control freak.

Disagree with them. And then stand back. If they become obsessed with convincing you that they are right and you are wrong simply because you are of a different opinion, run for the hills.

I agree with the answer that said if you say something different than they believe and they try to convince you you are wrong and are crazy for having thoughts that differ from theirs. not allowed to have different opinions at all. they are always right.
