Every attack on America has the same effect. It gives us a reason to pull together and take care of a common problem.

Wow - what a good question. I would think loss of American lives would be first and farmost an effect upon Americans. There has been a great comparison of Pearl Harbor and 9/11 in many ways. America is a SUPERPOWER. Here, the Japanese were able to 'sneak' an attack and engage us in war that we were not ready. The same with 9/11. Americans began to doubt in many ways, the security of our country and its ability to protect its citizens. In its panic, our government snatched up the innocent Japanese citizens and placed them in camps (fear) and later had to show retribution for the 'mistake in treatment of human beings' . Sound familiar? We have been guilty of this act since the British came: look what was done to the Native Americans. Do we ever stop to think of them - oh yeah - I forgot - they have been 'given" their own little piece of property out west and can live no where else. Pearl Harbor had great effects on Americans - much of it negative. Unfortunately.

One thing for sure is the fact that the Americans became united as ever after that sneak attack on a Sunday Morning that was December 7th 1941 in which President Franklin Roosevelt described as the "day of infamy" ... And Admiral Yamamoto Isoroku was right on his predicament that they have just awaken the "sleeping giant" just after the Naval and Air Forces of the Empire of Japan dastardly attacked the Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii and thus plunging the United States into World War II as well.. For the Japanese, the attack was an excellent tactic for them but in the next 4 years of the war, each and every aircraft carrier that participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor was sunk and destroyed as well. And in the Battle of Midway, Admiral Nagumo was caught like a sitting duck when he engaged the Americans into a "dogfight" not only in the air but in the high seas of the Pacific as well...

Pearl Harbor was one of the main factors that drew the US into WW2. Pearl Harbor also caused Americans to have "Yellow Fever", which was a fear of anyone or anything Asian. As a result, the US set up "detention" camps for Asians.

Since Pearl Harbor out military defensive weapons and defence systems have increased to make us more alert to attacks and ambushes.
That is the main affect of what Pearl harbor did to America.
I should know alot about this but this is the only thing i know about P. Harbor.

I learned this in US history this year 4 my junior year. Pearl Harbor affected many Americans back in the day when it happened. Think of it like when 9/11 happened. We got scared and rascist against Middle Eastern people. Well, in the 40s, Americans got deeply scared of the Japanese that they couldn't trust them as the friend and they thought they were spying on them for another attack and this led up to the Japanese interment camps. In other words, America felt scared, betrayed and angry. Of course we did loose a great amount of young men but we survived just like we did when 9/11 happened.

so many americans were killed, the us didn't trust the japanese. but we still didn't learn our lesson. they say that anyone who doesn't study history is doomed to repeat it. the japanese warned america that they were coming and the us government still chose to ignore the warning. we were warned about sept 11 and again the government chose to ignore the warnings.
