This is the United States, a democracy. Our state of health related to weight is an individual's prerogative. What I don't like, as a nurse, is having to pay for fat people's medical care in taxes. And, the taxpayer's bill for fat people's health care problems is ENORMOUS. For example, when I was a cardiac intensive care nurse, a grossly obese woman on the public dole ... my money and your money ... was suffering from diet-induced cardiac disease and diet-induced diabetes. Her body was a horrible, rotting mess. When I delivered her first meal of the healthier diet that had been ordered for her, she slung it across the room, threatened to sue, and got her usual "Feed Trough" breakfast of fried eggs, sausage, waffles, syrup, butter, biscuits, grits, jam, juice, milk, coffee, and, oh yes.... extra mayo ... and then demanded more of everything after she slurped it all up. (You and I paid for that meal, too.) That's not right. And, it hurts all of us. For example, the direct health care costs of obesity in the U.S in 1999 alone, not including indirect costs, was $102. 2 BILLION! Now, THAT'S terrorism. Key word "obesity cost" to learn how bad this crisis is and how it endangers our nation.

We look for the 'magic ingredient' instead of living the whole lifestyle of healthy cultures. We want to take wine or grapefruit, find out what single ingredient is beneficial and pack it into a pill. Then we can go out and work more, earn more, produce more, buy more without wasting time on frivolous things like living well. I was in France recently and they don't have an obesity problem. They seem to eat non-stop, at least I did when I was there, but never get fat. There are very few fast food places but abundant cafes and small restaurants. Eating is not a chore to be dispensed with as quickly as possible. Yes, part of it is their diet but the rest is their attitude toward life: relax and enjoy it.

If I have to pay more to smoke tobacco, and drink, then I want to see people abusing calories start coughing up some more change. Really I could care less if one wants to get fat and stay fat. I want to smoke, and I know for a fact that the extra money they charge for a sin tax doesn't go towards anyone's health care at all. If I pay 4 out of 5 dollars for "health tax" on a pack of cigarettes and smoke 2 packs a week at 32 bucks a month, then I want that $384 to go towards my insurance premium. It won't happen, as our leaders only know how to do dumb **** in this country. Asinine...

America should do nothing.
Americans however, especially those who are either obese or are on the way to becoming obese should do as their grandparents did.
Back in your grandparents day, there was very little chance of eating out, so nowadays you should eat food that is cooked in your home, cease going to fast food joints.
Go online to find suggested ways to eat healthy, get plenty of exercise, stop drinking soda's.
And finally cut down your portions of food.

We are fat because the country is fat. We have an overabundance of food that is available to almost all 24 hours a day. That is just the way it works.

People in this country eat like crap (usually fast food like McDonald's or something) and don't exercise enough. As a whole, this country is largely overweight.

because most of americans figure our founding fathers did enough work and now all they have to do is reek the benefits and watch the country fall like Rome. basically our counrty is like a cocky little pimple-face teenage boy who just won a champion ship game.

We are lazy and eat processed crap all the time. Most of us won't even walk to the corner store. That is why we are fat. I don't think we have to do anything. It is the American way.

2)Fast food at every corner, open all the time.
3)We eat even though we are not hungry
