Unfortunately we got hit by a heat wave a week after, and most of it did okay except for one area that looked like it got scorched. Now I'm seeing a lot more spots. I checked the sprinkler coverage and it appears to be fine. I water 2X a day. What's the deal? Why's it dying one me.

I believe you have to water the heck out of it when it's new. I would have thought 3x a day for at least a couple of weeks. Also if you have a heat wave that's only going to make it worse. Keep watering at least 2x a day especially right before sundown. Try some grass seed & perhaps a little fertilizer to fill in the dead spots. Try to match the seed with the type of sod you have.

Just curiuos are any dogs allowed to relieve themselves? That can also cause dead spots. But only female dogs supposedly.

If it's real hot and your watering at the wrong time of day...could cause scorching. You water early morning and later in the night (7ish) so the sun isn't beating on it. With this heat and no rain, it's hard to make anything grow or stay alive. How does everyones grass look...brown huh. See how it goes and maybe try again in the middle of September if you need to replace, or just try fertilizer now.

The time of day you water is ever so important, especially not during direct sunlight because the water evaporates before hitting the ground. Water gently so the excess does not create run-off.
