I guess that flea markets used to sell fleas inadvertantly in the olden days. The term "flea market" comes from the French term "marche aux puces," which was a market where the goods were so yucky people thought they attracted vermin!

Because Fleas are small leaping bloodsucking insects, so you can imagine why they'd call it a Flea Market. Everyones looking to get the most items for the least money.

Originally it was a place where people brought their used goods to sell and trade. In the days preceeding air conditioning and Advantix, those goods were often infested with fleas, thus it was nick-named a "flea market."

Because people pack together in a confined space. They are on top of each other like a bunch of fleas. It was started in Albany NY.
