The show Mythbusters took up this topic a while ago. It was proven that if you house is built to code then there is no danger of being electricuted. All pipes and wires in your home are carefully grounded, so that the electricity from lightning is safely dispersed.

Yes, if your house was struck by lightning while you were taking a shower, the copper or iron pipes in your house would immediately conduct the 6 million plus volts directly to you, via the water, which is an excellent conductor. You would immediately be electrocuted.

If you want proof, the TV show "MythBusters" did one of their experiments recently and proved this as a viable myth.

Though it would not be as likely to be dangerous unless it was a direct hit on your house, it is possible. Water and copper or metal pipes can conduct electricity after all!

This is one for the TV Show Myth Busters, but I wouldn't want to be the one to try it. Although I heard in a special myth busters they are going to disprove whether or not your face will stay that way if someone pats you on the back while making a funny face. I think thats on Aug 8th at 8PM
