Because they were tired of being labeled liberal and wanted to label somebody else? Kind of the "needing someone to kick around" mentality?

Nope. We sure didn't. Neo-conservativism has been around a long time.

And in fairness, did conservatives invent the Liberal Label to place on those of us who question conservative values and agendas?

And can any of us who use these labels really understand what they mean?

Probably not.

I doubt it. Neocons really are a separate breed from "classic" conservatives. Neocons are all in favor of big gov't programs and enormous gov't spending. They're also in favor of a gov't police state here, and military intervention everywhere else. "Classic" conservatives at least gave lip service to the concept of small gov't that respected peoples' privacy, and tended to lean more towards isolationism in foreign policy. Neocons do not favor small taxes, they are blatant in their support for corporate welfare, and also give high regard to military imperialism.

Ronald Ray-gun must be spinning in his grave to see what the GOP has become.

[Disclaimer: I do not consider myself to be a conservative, neocon, or liberal.]

I wouldn't be suprised. Though, conservatives do the same thing. Words like democrap and lib-sh*t.

It's both sides that name call on eachother, it's really quite immature for grown up men and women to call eachother names for a difference in opinion.

It epitomises the greedy, inconsiderate, unpatriotic version of conservatism offered by this administration. Hawks who believe in giving up other peoples lives at a whim, but will hide, involve themselves in duplicitous behaviour to avoid fighting themselves.

Neoconservatism is a movement started in the sixties. Many of the founding members were liberals themselves so you could say that.
