My daughter is turning two months old next week, is it too early to have her ears pierced? A friend told me that pediatricians now do it at their offices. Is that true?

I just had my daughter's done and she's 4 years old. I wouldn't have a baby done that young. Wait at least 4 months from now. And some pediatricians do pierce ears in their offices. Or they recommend someone to do it.

of course it's not too early. my daughters ears were done when she was 2 weeks old. the younger they are...less painful. i've heard that pediatricians do it now days also....but you can go any place where they pierce ears...if you feel comfortable. my mother in law did my daughters, with a needle...and left a string tied like a hoop looking earring for about 2 weeks after, till it heeled.
good luck.

My eldest daughter, now 39 years old, had her ears pierced when she was a few days old. Her mother was Hispanic, and it is customary in that culture for the girls to have pierced ears. My mother, an Anglo, was furious, especially when she saw this microscopic baby with ear rings bigger than her ears since the tiny ones usually used by the Hispanics were not available in rural Iowa!

The doctor told her, "It's nothing compared to what we do to the boys." He was talking about circumcision.

Do pay attention to hygiene requirements, since they can definitely get infected in those little ears.

Have never heard of a pediatrician that pierced ears. However, as long as you are watching that she doesn't get infected and are keeping her ears cleaned well. I don't think there is a certain age that is too young.

I had my daughter's ears pierced when she was 6 weeks old. I think it's okay at 2 months. It's up to you.

I think a baby can have their ears pierced as early as 1 and half months or sooner. Most people do it earlier on now a days. It's just a lot easier.

I concur that this can cause metal sensitivities - I can only wear (real) gold or (real) silver earrings, anything else makes my ears break out in a crusty rash.

Talk with your pediatrician to see what they have to say regarding the safest age to begin ear piercing.

I personally think you should wait until your daughter can make the decision on her own. We waited until my daughters were asking to get their ears pierced - about age 8. It was fun for them to pick out their new earrings and they felt more "grown-up".

I do think it is possible to do it, yes, but should you do it. I don't think so. Sure I've seen it on kids that are around 5 years old and such but never on a two month old baby. When your daughter grows up and wants ear rings then you can get them for her, but right now you are making that decision for her.

Uh, avoid it. It can lead to infections, and there is no purpose for having it done. It can also lead to life long infections. I had my ears peirced early, well before I was 1, and I -still- can't wear earrings, because my ears are ultra sensitive to the metals. Even the earrings made for people like me don't work.

Just avoid it. You're only doing it for a cute factor.

personally i would wait, i dont know that it hurts them at all but i dont think its necessary just so you think they look cute. they are hazardous in such little infants because they could get caught on something once she starts moving around and i have had an earring pulled out accidentally before and it hurt. plus they could be a choking hazard, not good! i think it was fun when i was 5 or 6 and i got to go get my ears pierced, it was exciting and i still think of it as a good childhood memory.
