Dells are pieces of $hit, PCs are overrated, if you have a working Apple, just use the Apple.

The brand of computer really isn't the issue, unless there are known problems with foreign company or something.

With a PC, you want to run Win XP with at least 380 MB, preferrably 512 MB, and if you're going to upgrade to the newest operating system called Vista, you'll need 1 GB of memory.

Everything depends on your application.

The processor speed, next to the amount of memory, will be the most important aspect of speed of the computer. If it doesn't have the memory, it will grind. If you're not a speed demon, you can get by with as little as a 1 GHz processor, but no less with Win XP. I have a 2.5 GHz machine with 512 MB memory that I call my "speedster." But it also has a fast hard disk (9ms seek time, 7500 RPM, 140GB).

Don't forget to look on eBay, or ask your computer guy for a used machine. You can always add memory to them.

a $300 computer just flush that money down the toilet, or be prepared to pay hundreds more getting it to work properly. Dell is cheap for a reason they use cheap parts
