Make sure root flair is at least 1 inch above the soil line.
Balled and burlaped trees suffer from shock the first 24 months.
If it gets dry, it dies.
Spider mites usually only screw up a limb at a time, but can cause a bunch of problems.
Soil drench with Miracle-Gro at 3/4 rate every 15 days.
Cut out dead area ASAP so you can see if the problem continues.

I don't know that type of tree , but I do know that trans plating is a shock and I know that the weather in Michigan has been brutal
Are the trees planted in the correct sunlight area are they getting enough water are they getting to much water
