It depends on what your trying to cut and how thick it is. Try experimenting with a helper. have the helper stand at the ready at the ampere adjustment. Start out at 30 amps then have the helper gradually increase the setting until you reach the desired effect. So you might waste a rod or two, but it will give you a parameter to work with that you can refer to for ever.

Be fire safe. Ware leathers and proper welding lenses.

Just guessing you are trying to cut a body panel or something. Whatever it is, the arc welders just don't make a super clean cut. Like using a torch with a large cutting tip. But, depending on the thickness, 150 amps should do the trick. Air saws work well too. Good luck.
