The rule is no white shoes, bottoms (pants, skirts, shorts) or blazers (why anyone would wear a white blazer just recalls Saturday Night Fever for me lol) after Labor Day and none before Memorial Day. Many people do not follow this rule... I do. I consider it to be very tacky to not do so however I won't call anyone out if they are in violation. The fashion rule began for two reasons. The first reason being that in the summer months wearing lighter colors goes along with staying cool, and in the winter darker colors go along with staying warm. Another possibility of the unwritten rule’s origin dates back to the 19th and 20th centuries. During those years it became a status symbol for new members of the middle class, who were the only ones “permitted” to wear white post-Labor Day. Cream was always ok during this time too, nothing too too close or nothing that can be mistaken for white. But make your own way!!

The old rule was no white after labor day, but now you can wear white all year round. Just be sure to keep it clean. And don't wear white shoes, that's just not a flattering look.

Actually, that rule was tossed out ages ago. You can wear white, or shades of it, any time you want...didn't you see any issues of "winter whites" in any of the fashion mags the last few years? Wear what makes you feel good and look great!
(It used to be after labor day, though, so you know!)

No white after Labor Day
No one does this any more
That is an old fashion etiquette rule that no one follows. It never applied to the South anyway. And I live in the Deep South. It will still be hot in November.

I thought that fashion rule doesn't exist anymore. But it was no white AFTER Labor Day. I love wearing white and white shoes so I don't pay attention to that rule.

It's "no white shoes after Labour Day". The idea is that white shoes are only for summer. The rule is old fashioned, but it still matters to some people.

You can wear white, meaning dress shoes and complete white outfits, pants etc. on Easter. You are supposed to stop wearing white as of Labor Day, I guess you can wear it on Labor Day, but not after that. This does not pretain to white tennis shoes.
