Jamal discovered that his biological father was scoundrel Alec McIntyre. Alec wanted custody of Jamal, but Jamal sought emancipation from Alec so he could live with the Cudahys. Livia represented Jamal, who won the case. Jamal was adopted by Tom and Livia. Some time after, the Cudahays moved away from Pine Valley.
Jamal has recently returned to town with a mysterious agenda.

From what I can gather Jamal is Olivia Frey's son. Olivia is Derek's sister and aunt to Dani. Hope this helped.

I missed that part. It is like he just suddenly appeared in Pine Valley. I hate it when they do that. Rather like Annie.
