My husband and I have begun infertility testing. He is fine (his counts), my day 3 bloodwork came back normal, my periods are like clockwork...we just aren't getting pregnant.

My HSG is slated for mid August. Reading about it scares me! Is there anyone that has had it done and can tell me about their experience? My ob/gyn says it is "uncomfortable". Hmmmm, that's a scary word. Any feedback would be appreciated!

They gave me doxycycline to start taking the night before too...maybe I should ask for something for nerves =) I hope they let him in there, I think that they will. If you read this...did they say what the shape of your uterus may contribute to your infertility?

I just had mine done this past Thursday. I was given doxycycline for preventative measures and this was the worst part-it made me so nauseaous! I was also given a lortab and xanax 1 hour before the procedure because I told my doc I was nervous. They let my hubby stay with me the whole time! The doc inserted the speculum and then put the catheter into my cervix and the worst part was when he squeezed in the dye and this hurt for about 3 minutes but I just closed my eyes and squeezed my husband's hands. The relief was instant when he deflated the balloon and pulled the catheter out. I had some spotting for 2 days and the test showed both tubes open but a heart shaped uterus. All in all, it was worth the peace of mind of knowing and knowing my fertility will be increased for the next several cycles! Good luck to you!

I had my HSG a while ago but I remember it well . . it didn't hurt a bit until the dye was actually injected into the uterus (which I was allowed to watch on the monitor) . . it felt like the worst case of cramps I have ever had but at the same time, since I got to watch the procedure actually happening and the dye flowing out of the tubes (all clear!) it was not so bad . . I did get lightheaded when I sat up but that wasn't too bad . . spotted for about two days and then nothing . . . if you are nervous about it, ask your doctor for something . . . it also helps to take Advil or Motrin about an hour before going in for the procedure . . . Good luck

that's an important try. medical doctors can't properly get an concept of the situation of your tubes except an HSG is performed or a lap surgical procedure to view them, and the HSG is a lot more convenient and bigger secure than the lap. An ultrasound does not supply any indication if tubes are open or not, so an HSG is the conventional technique for this. that's had to make certain in case your tubes are sparkling, because in the adventure that they don't seem, repeated tries at organic concept or perhaps IUIs will be ineffective and could waste some money and time. the sturdy information is in case your tube is in part blocked, the HSG has been nicely-known to sparkling them for some months because the dye shoots by, so that you've an more effective possibility of having pregnant contained in the months following the technique. i do not comprehend of any stunning disadvantages linked with HSGs. I had one many years in the past and that i study all the workplace artwork and do not undergo in innovations seeing any a threat part-consequences that appeared risky to me. i'm effective there is the uncommon threat of an allergic reaction to the dye or a threat tube harm if the technique is performed improperly, yet those a narrow disadvantages. basically as with all clinical clinical care, you desire your clinical professional is valuable and that you will be possibility-free from any harm simply by malpractice. My advice is to take some Advils an hour or so before the technique. that's slightly painful at the same time as they shoot the dye in, quite in case you do have blockage. I had no blockage and it nevertheless gave me a fairly sharp soreness for about 30 seconds. i turned right into slightly crampy after the technique for something of the day, and that i became leaking dye for hours, so do not placed on your favourite pair of khakis to the workplace in case you leak by the pad. yet all in all, it became worth slightly short soreness to do away with an extra effective threat from our unexplained infertility prognosis. also, i'll grant you with a caution that that's a fairly awkward and embarrassing technique. I extremely have performed IUIs and IVFs, notwithstanding the HSG is one in all the most awkward infertility try/clinical care I extremely have performed. between laying on the table and the X-ray panel, then conserving your self in some strange positions because the dye is injected and the x-ray taken, you'd be satisfied to be performed! It is going by technique of fairly right away notwithstanding. sturdy luck including your try and that i'm hoping it delivers some solutions.

I've had 3 :)

There is mild cramping...much like when you get your period. IF there is blockage...the cramping could be heavier.

To help minimize the discomfort....take 2 Aleeve/Nuprin about 45 minutes before the test beings.

Also......ask the tech to allow you to watch the monitor..the distraction helps reduce the focus on discomfort.
