There is a place in mackinaw city that does cabins right on the lake. We found it on the web searching for cabin rentals. It is pretty good with its prices. It is right on Lake Huron side of Mackinaw. They do bonfires every night. Some cabins have kitchenettes, some have 2 beds, some have 3 beds. They do provide playpen if you don't want to tote yours up. You can see the bridge perfectly from the beach. They have plenty of toys for the kids to play with. Playhouses, basketball, volleyball, swingsets, little cars for the kids to push around. I think it is around $80-$100 a night and we are a family of 7. Wonderful place!

Best is a very relative term. What's best for me may not be best for you and your family. Most likely any large lake in your area, and in Michigan, you pretty much can't throw a stone without having it land in water, should have someplace that rents cabins, by the week or week-end. I live in the mid-western part of lower Mi., south of Kalamazoo, and they are all over here. If you're interested in coming this far, email me and I'll get you a list of available sites.
