I'm trying to understand Syrinana, and in a lot of ways, dont get it. I get that our gov, works with corp. that has their own best interest at heart and a government that gives approval to initiatives that agree with the bennefits that big bus/benefits have to offer(ie, energy and oil, political votes etc.) But is that the only message of Syriana? Am I missing something?

Like you, I don't quite get it and I've watched it twice now....boooring movie, and skips around too much.

Yeah, I understood it but I still found it hard to watch. I think that you have to take each subplot individually, and not necessarily try to link them. You can probably find a common thread through them. But, the common thread is not the important part, I think. I think it's the human stories that were to be the most signicant thing if the film. How people act and react in a world of control freaks, power trips, greed, deception and betrayal, and suicidal hoplessness. The one subplot that I couldn't get anything out of though, was the one between the black guy and his father. What was going on there? Was the father a representation of despondence and that comes from feelings of powerlessness and disillusionment in the world of today? Or many something simpler, perhaps? I don't get it....

No, you are not missing anything basically what you stated is the message. No hands are clean. I think the director should have let up on the crack pipe while filming though because maybe it would be a little easier to understand. I watched it twice also.

why would you watch a movie twice that you didn't like?

I think it's basically a fictional story designed to show how the government is linked to business in some shady actions...
