According to various newspapers, the Dodgers are in "serious" contention to either get Miguel Tejada, Alfonso Soriano, or Greg Maddux. Ideally, the Dodgers would want Soriano since he could fill in the position at LF, where Andre Eithier has been playing, and energized the offense, but the Nationals would want two to three top prospects in return so it's unlikely that the Dodgers would bulge, considering that it was a longshot to resign Soriano anyway.
Another player that the Dodgers are pursuing is former Cy Young Winner Greg Maddux. Maddux is also in a final year of his 3 year, $24 million contract, but the Cubs would likely ask for a marquee major leaguer in return for the PR (public relation) aspect of trading a 300-game winner (Dodgers wouldn't give up much for Maddux). The acquisition would be a hefty 2 month rental before he decides to stay or retire.
Tejada would be a likely choice for the Dodgers, but it's going to cost them big. The former MVP is in his 3rd year of a 6 year, $72 million dollar contract, meaning that Tejada is due to recieve $38 million over the next three season if the Dodgers want him. With Tejada reluctant to move from SS to 3B, Furcal would have to change position and creating a logjam among the left-side of the infield, with the recent acquisition of 3B Wilson Betemit and the return of Cesar Izturis. Of course, any trade package for Tejada would have to involve Izturis in the deal in order for it to happen.

The two big bats they are looking at are Tejada and Soriano.(and Maddux)
It once appeared that Monday's non-waiver trading deadline would pass without the Dodgers making a significant move. But with the club already having acquired reliever Elmer Dessens and infielder Wilson Betemit in the past week, it now appears that a more significant trade - or perhaps even two - could be on the way.
Tejada appears to be the most likely acquisition of the three, but he probably would cost the Dodgers a significant young player or two.
Any deal for Tejada would involve either him or Rafael Furcal changing positions, probably to second base, and create a logjam of middle- and left-side infielders with Betemit and Cesar Izturis. Izturis, a former Gold Glove shortstop, probably would be included in a package of players going to the Orioles.
