yes first exit all of the program on the right bottom. right click every program and click exit and then shut down it will shut down a lot faster

the only other way i know of to shut windows down even faster is to pull out the power cord. That should shut it down instantly.

10 mins. is way too long for shutdown. It's abnormal.
Shouldn't take more than 30 secs. on most up to date computers. Mine takes about 10 secs. 3Ghz P4 w/ 1GB RAM.
Reasons for slow shutdown may include:
- no enough RAM: too much disk I/O
- really weak CPU
- too many programs running
Look at your memory utilization. See if you can streamline your computer's memory usage...
Update hardware if possible.

I make sure that I've closed all my programs, and my shutdown time is only about 2 minutes. If you do that, more ram will definitely help.
