Babe Ruth wasn't a trade it was a purchase.

November 3rd, 1992 Roberto Kelly for Paul O'Neil and Joe DeBerry. Kelly didn't have much of a career after. O'Neil became the Number three hitter for the Yankees. Leading them to 7 consecutive post-season appearances, 6 consecutive Division Titles, 5 World Series appearances (4 Consecutive), and 4 World Series Titles (3 Consecutive). That's a trade.

That little trade for a kid from Fargo ND from the KC A's after the 59 season...Since Roger Maris went on to become AL, MVP in 1960 and 1961 and help the Yankees to the WS 5 years in a row, it was a pretty good trade for the Yanks...The A's did get a washed up Hank Bauer and Marvelous Marvin Throneberry who went on to star for the 1962 Mets. The A's also got Norm Siebern in the deal and he had a few good years in KC...

When the A's got a good played back then for some reason they felt compelled to trade the guy to the Yankees for some stiff - Ralph Terry 1959!

The yankees do not trade, they buy. They bought Abreu today for $35.5 million from the Phillies. That is the amount that they now have to pay him over the next 2.5 seasons.
