There have suddenly been a load of scented sanitary products on the market, they had these things in the US for years, and I am wondering why on earth they have suddenly turned up in the UK now too.

I noticed an increase in 'YOUR VAGINA IS DIRTY AND GROSS, YOU MUST MAKE IT SMELL LIKE FLOWERS!' adverts for things like Femfresh and Always with Freshelle, and it made me really sad to know how popular they are, but this takes it to a new level.

Commercial tampons and pads are bad for vaginal health to begin with, what with general risks along with the chemicals and bleach used to unnecessarily bleach products, but now fragrance to make our vaginas smell like flowers, or ultimately like fish when they cause infections, rather than smelling like vaginas?

Why has this trend suddenly come from? Do you think it is commercial pad and commercial tampon companies getting scared about safer options taking their customers away, what with Keeper being advertised on television now?

I think again I'll point out - tampons are very bad for vaginal health, putting chemicals and bleach in your vagina is not a good idea at all.

It is also bigger environmental impact - already huge with commercial sanitary products.

Along with that it is an issue of making women feel dirty and ashamed of their bodies - menstruation is not dirty, you don't need to fill your vagina with bleach and purfume, a healthy vagina smells like a vagina...add chemicals and bleach is an unhealthy and bad smelling vagina.

It's worrying that there are women so ignorant about their own body and how to care for their health - it's a painful shame women are buying these products.

I think it's the quest to gloss over anything natural to make bodies more appealing, but I don't get it myself. If our vaginas were meant to smell of flowers it would be inborn, surely! Maybe they think men will appreciate us more (did you notice it's a guy advertsing them in the advert?). I think personally it's a way of telling us females that there's something wrong with us, so the (mostly) male executives/ad makers of the advertising companies do their best to denegrate us and make us feel ashamed about ourselves as women (and I don't even believe in women's lib!!) Personally, I'm worried in case all tampon manufacturers do this, as I'm allergic to a hell of a lot of substances, perfumes, preservatives etc, and I don't feel like getting thrush or other yeast infections due to the perfume. Help!

I think you're taking the idea of scented sanitary wear a little too seriously and too personally. I bought some for the first time today during my lunch break and I think they're a great idea! Do you look at cans of deodorant and think the manufacturers are telling us all we have smelly, disgusting, body odoured armpits? Of course not...and our armpits weren't designed to smell of flowers, cotton or fresh summer gardens! If anything helps to make me feel clean and fresh during my period then I'm all for it!

If your only worry in life is about scented tampons and how women's vaginas smell then you're very lucky! Either that or you need to get out more.

It is just a marketing ploy to say were better/different/advanced delete as appropriate. I think that putting additional chemicals into your body, which could be avoided like air freshener, harsh cleaning products,is at the best dangerous for health at the worst

I thought I was hearing things when I caught the end of an advert for 'fragranced Tampax' but now I see Im not! I mean, without being gross, the smell of a lightly scented tampon is no match for your bodys natural odour....its all a bit too random for my liking! Lets just love our bodies as they are! :O)
