I'm especially interested in contemporary music. Jazz works too; actually, the distinction between classical and jazz is pretty vague nowadays.

Most of the more contemporary classical music is still under copyright. That being said, certain sites have gotten permission from the copyright holder to post a song or two from recent times. The best directory I know of is:

It's a compilation of most of the free classical music on the web. It will redirect you to where you need to be.

Well, scince most of it will be older, I'm sure you can find it a lot of place without the copyright. (whch means legal and free files because it is to old).

I don't know a site, sorry. Try a google for it.
