The HIV virus is a mutation of a similar immunodeficiency virus that has been traced to various money species in central Africa. At some point, it became transmittable to humans, with the most common explanation being an infected monkey bit a human.

While it could theoretically have been genetically engineered using modern technology, it's origins several decades ago make it much more likely to be a natural mutation that jumped primate species. Remember that humans (coincidentally, of course) share over 90% DNA similarity with many monkey species.

AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. It's what happens when HIV becomes active enough to shut down most of a person's immune system. The person is then susceptible to a host of other infections, which is what usually results in their death.

It's a mutation of a flu virus, but instead of attacking the lungs, it attacks T-4, white blood cells. Humans do not know how to create life.
