I'm in my first trimester and I used to jog and do tae bo and crunches. My doctor told me that it's better for me to walk and to not do taebo, but didn't tell me anything about crunches...are they safe? :-)

During the first trimester, they might be fine, but do you really want to risk it? :) Beyond that, they are definitely not okay, because lying on your back can cause you to lose blood return to your brain because of the weight on your vena cava, which can make you pass out.

Safe... hum... A crunch, where you just lift your head up off the floor, should be fine. A sit up, where you pull your head up to your knees, probably isn't. While your pregnant, you don't want to do anything strenuous that could pull or tear. It wont' feel comfortable to lay on your back once you get into the 3rd trimester anyway.

i'm not a doctor either, but i can't imagine that it would be good at anytime do to situps or crunches. your first trimester is the most dangerous time, as far as possible miscarrage. walking is not strenuous on the belly.

I'm not a doctor but I say don't do crunches! You should try yoga...they have special yoga classes for expectant mommies! It's not as bad *** as taebo but it's still real good for your body.

Then call his office and ask about doing "Crunches". You come on here and ask a question, that will be answered by some with pure evil in their heart, and will encourage you to do something that might hurt you and your child.

I would slowly reduce them until you begin your 2nd trimester, and then stop completely. But you should ask your doctor to be sure. I know it's good to keep your abs strong, and it's easier to get back in shape after baby.

No you should not. Babies growth compresses a lot in that area. There are safe exercises you can do..I would consult with your doctor he/she should be able to give you a sheet or something with exercises you can do during pregnancy.

Thats a lot of stress on the muscles in your stomach. Walking and swimming are really good during pregnancy. It is also good to reduce the stress on your joints during this time.
