as humans we are destructive and chaotic by nature so we take a lot but don't give a whole lot back, we need resources to keep ourselves alive, and support our life. Fortunetly most resources replenish, like trees and water, and if they didn't we would have used them up centuries ago, and we would eventually die from lack of these.

Momofthree, Perhaps in the dehumanizing you can include the views of Stalin and Mao? Banana, Avoiding the question? I guess that works for you. Why not answer with something from atheists who have contributed to theology? Humanism perhaps? The idea that humanity is the universe aware of itself? That are objective worth is even more valuable given the rarity? Our life is even more precious given that it is the only one we have, and thus the life of others is also more precious? Something??? There are literally BOOKS written by atheists about this. Humanism deals with this. Tentofield, And if the laws said it was OK to rape babies, that would be OK then? Oh they wouldn't, well let's pick something the laws actually have allowed. Is it alright to beat your wife with a stick as long as the stick is no thicker then your thumb? Seriously, when these are the answers given to a rather straight-forward question, I becomes clear why your strategies are to attack the views of others instead of talking about your own views. Read about humanism. Have an ideology that makes sense. Jordan, Thank you for providing a well-thoughtout POV. It sure beats the heck out of avoidance, claiming solely the morality of the laws, and claiming no value whatsoever.

There are two types of resources. Those that are essential for survival, and those that are needed for comfort.
To survive, you need food, water, shelter and heat.
For comfort you need secondary resources like wood, (to make bigger and more comfortable shelter out of) oil (to make gas and heating fuel out of) etc.
So, NECESSARY ones would be ones directly used for heat food or shelter. (And if your teacher's being picky, oxygen) You don't NEED anything else, but life is much nicer if you do. (you won't die if you don't have a TV in your room, or this year's jeans. But you would if you never drank anything again)
