Okay, I am 37 weeks pregnant, and here within the past couple days my "discharge" has changed dramatically. It was just the normal creamy white thick discharge that came occasionally, now it's more of a "gel" clear liquid that is a LOT thinner and has a different smell to it all together, almost a musty smell, in a way. It also is coming out more often, and in larger amounts.

Is this indicating anything that my body is getting ready to go into labor soon, or is this just something normal?

(I would appreciate serious answers only please). Thanks!

I'd call the doctor on that one.

It is possibly your mucous membrane, which would indicate labor isn't too, too far away.

However, from the smell you're describing, it could also be a bacterial infection which you could possibly pass onto the baby if it travels through the birth canal.

You should immediately contact your doctor b/c if it is a bac. infection you need to take an antibiotic for a week and since you are so close to being due the sooner the better.

Good luck and congrats!

Well since i am on my 4th kid, i know changes in discharge is normal.... but i would go to your dr. and have them test it for you they can tell right away if it is your water that is leaking... all they do is use a strip and place it on the fluid if it turns blue it is your water....i would suggest you go and have this checked out cause if it is your water leaking they might want to do something about it, or if it isn't your water you may have an infection going or it could just be nothing..... but for the saftey of the baby i would have it checked.

Sounds like your water is Leaking. Or may have broke altogether. Breaking of waters is not always a gush of liquid.

Either way... go to the Dr. or the ER ASAP! Infection could enter into the water sac and cause all kinds of problems for you and the baby! Go Now!

Let me know if you figure this one out! I had a similar thing happen to me. Went to labor and delivery thinking my water had broken, but it hadn't. They just looked at me like I was crazy for thinking it had then sent me home. But it only happen a couple of times to me one night, and then never again. Went to the doctor that evening and everything was fine. I feel like I'll never know for sure. The only change was that I had dialated from a 0 to a 1 when it happened.

The same thing happend to me Feb. 4 when my son was born he was 6 weeks early. One day I noticed my "discharge" was different then I thought I was leaking some water to I when to the doc that day and they did a amnio test and it was neg. The next day it got worse and I knew I was not peeing my pants to I went again back to the doc. and the amnio test was positive so I ended up having my son that night.

I would say call the Doc. Sometimes this can be premature water leakage. You don't want to have leakage continually, that can lead to a "dry" birth. So Call the DOC they would know the BEST for YOU! Each pregnacy is different Good Luck and Congratultions

Call your health care provider. Ususally the mucus plug is thicker than normal discharge. Any change, I'd report. Don't worry about being a nag...you're not, you're just becoming a good mom.

It sounds like your mucus plug is beginning to fall out. When your water breaks it's liquid, not a gel.

Amniotic fluid is like water and there shouldn't be an odour to it.
IF you were leaking amniotic fluid it would feel like your peeing.
Your best bet is to have a doctor check you out (Esp. because of the odour)

If your water had broke..it would be leaking constantly non stop drainage. Your cervix could be thinning, or you might be losing your mucous plug. This is normal. I would assume you are right on schedule.
