Character and coolness are side-effects from intergrity,wisdom and being interesting in general. No amount of tattoos and piercings can replace that. Why does it seem that so many with tattoos seem to act entitled and self-important? Does anyone believe in earning character anymore? Or do we believe that in the USA, even THAT is for sale?

ummm, i have one tattoo but i didnt get it for any of those reasons. i got it for myself, not for others to think anything of me.

Do you have a problems with girls who wear make-up?
Do you take care and interest in the kinds of clothes you wear?
Do you comb your hair or do you just go out with bed head?
Tattoos and piercings are decorative, just like makeup, clothing and other grooming choices.
I personally wouldn't want a decoration that's permanent, like a tattoo, but a lot of my favorite people have them because they're pretty, or they have some personal meaning.
I don't know anyone who got tattoos for the reasons you listed or that have the attitudes you seem to think they have.
How about you let your character and coolness show through your integrity, wisdom, etc, by not being so judgemental about how someone chooses to decorate their body.

I personally didn't get a tattoo to feel self important. I have liked tattoo's since I was a young girl, and still do. I am not much for the little butterflys, roses etc. I enjoy the free hand tat's much better. It is art on a living canvas. And you can always add and change the picture. Until recently, none of my tattoo's were even visible unless I wore summer clothes. I have also chosen to have a dragon as one of my tattoo's, since I love dragons. It allows me to have something which makes me happy with me at all times.

Wow, you're really acting entitled and self-important your own self!
I have two small tattoos; they have personal meaning for me and are not meant to impress anyone but myself. I got the first one when I was 30. I had plenty of character before it. I also designed both myself.
If you don't think piercings and tattoos mean anything, act like it, instead of trying to belittle people for decorating themselves differently than you do.

I did not get mine for COOLNESS or Character I thought I already had them; besides if someone wants a tattoo who are u to judge! As long as they don't push u into getting one God forbid or maybe ur just scared of the pain

I have three of them and I also am a mother of three
I know some very sucessful business men (doctor, etc) that have them so they are they not cool when they save ur life
Be careful who u judge they maybe the one saving ur judgmental butt next time!!

I have one tattoo. I did not do it to "apply coolness or character". I did it cause I wanted to not because I wanted to prove anything. If you look down on people with tattoos or piercings what does that make you... think about it. What does it say about your character?

I think some tattoos are like the medals of the military.Any1 can buy a tattoo just like a medal, the difference is whether if they actually earned it or they just bot it bcuz they wanted to get respect without doing anyhting to earn it.

Tattoos are not all ways about cool and character. I have three and the each mean something to me and if nobody likes them then they don't have to look at them. I don't care if others understand why I have them. I know and that's all that matters.

I did not tattoo myself for others to think I am cool, it is something much more personal. people tattoo themselves in all cultures for spiritual or emotional reasons.. not to impress others. it is only the foolish who get one to impress.
