Depends on what majors your college/university offers. At UCDavis, we have a biotechnology major, which would be ideal for you- but we also have a genetics major, or just plan biological sciences. This question would best be answered by your academic advisor on campus. And yes- you will need lots of schooling, graduate school is required for research with stem cells.

hiii...it all depends from where u are ..different countries have different programs and i guess u shd start with biology ..and probably take subjects like molecular biology ,biochemistry, developmental biology ,cell signaling..these are the main areas you need to look on as there are the foundations of stem cell biology..you need to learn the basics and move ahead and try to specialize in your area of interest like adult stem cells. or embryonic stem cells ...the application of stem cells are immense and can be applied to diseases,cancer..all the very best to you

Then at you college find faculty who are (if) any that are performing this research. Then work with them.
Then you have summer internships (find one for stem cell research).
Another thing...very important Germany and other countries are very much advanced in this field so for Masters and Ph.D which you have to get to reseach and be sucessfull you should look in those countries.
HEy e-mail me if more questions.
Good luck.

If by carry out, you actually mean lead a research project, then you will require a PhD. The actual area of study can vary, but something in biology or biochemistry are good bets.
