Yes, we definately need to drill our own oil (we have plenty). And we also should see more alternative fuel sources.

I am not a tree hugger by any means, but I can think of nothing short of a nuclear strike that would put more of a death blow to terrorism, then eliminating the need for Midle Eastern oil.

The sooner we can discover something that is efficient, abundant and more importantly profitable, the sooner we can be done with the Middle East.

To all the misguided folks out there, we have PLENTY of oil. Not just in Alaska, but many sites offshore that China and Cuba are now drilling but we have passed laws against us from drilling. Oil shale is also another source that would provide 100's of years worth of oil, all domestic. Canada and Mexico also have many sources of oil, I would have no problems getting it from there instead.

Oggie how could you be so right about our oil resources and so wrong about Bush, doesn't it hurt your head to be so ... bi-polar?

if u are talking about drilling some more just so USA don't have to pay more i think u are wrong . America needs to stop its dependency on oil and should not continue to be the most contaminating country on the world when it isn't the biggest . i don't think it is unfair the way we are contaminating the whole planet and i really think we should change what we are doing before thinking on drilling more , we have done enough damage to the world .

a solution which i would propose is to start shrinking all cities and to make sure that everyday we are less dependant in a car , we need cities in which we can actually walk to school , to work and anywhere whit out the need to waste gas and resources which will become so dimish soon .

No, America has almost as much oil as the foreign countries do and some places that have not even been drilled here are plentiful with oil. Bush just wants to make all of his foreign friends rich and make the American citizens poor we need to get bush out of office asap!!

Absolutely. America uses 25% of all the barrles of oil produced each day. They already say its getting harder and harder to get oil from deepsea drilling.

I do not think the solution to the problem is to look for other oil outlets though. I think it is finding alternative fuels. Or at least fuels that rely less on oil then what gasoline does.

Almost all the countries depend of foreign oil. We are no different then they are. We do however consume more than everyone else. China is moving up pretty fast though and with a billion people in that country it certainly won't take long.

The handwritings on the wall. Alternatives will eventually make an impact, we won't always have oil men running our country. We haven't even scratched what oil is available to us here. When we vote and get the right leadership we may be able to not have to import so much to make so few so rich.

Until and unless we develop alternative sources of energy, we will have to get at least some of our oil from foreign sources. Currently, there is oil in Canada being taken from wet soil. And there is the opportunity for us to get more of our own oil if we drill in places that have been considered out-of-bounds like in Alaska and in Yellowstone. Otherwise we need to import some oil. Do I like it?? Not at all!!

Chow!!

Obviously, it'd be better for our own ecomomy (if not our environment) if we could drill all of our own oil, but we simply don't have the oil reserves that the Middle East, Russia, and Mexico do. Alternative fuels are a good idea, though...

Its terrible and tends to influence our foreign policy and contributes greatly to our gigantic deficits. Unfortunately, the daily US demand has increased steadly. The only practical way out at this point is for the public to start taking conservation more seriously and to accept nuclear power.

What's even more scary is our demand for foreign natural gas has been increasing.

I would rather rely on an alternative resolution. We could produce a cause effective solution! I want peace! It would be one less thing to fight about,
